Do You Hear The Wind?
Decorating a Christmas tree with sound.
Once November has passed, Christmas draws closer. Lights go up in the streets. Even when the north wind blows, there is still a fairy-tale sense of peace.
For the Politecnico di Milano Tree-athlon we transformed a campus tree into an installation of original sound and handmade decorations. It was inspired by the cool winds of the season — a winter day that still holds human festivity. Ribbons were made from recycled materials; we kept the tree itself unharmed.
The main elements are lights, stripes, and a waterproof speaker playing a soundtrack composed for the site.
The composition has three sections: piano arpeggios over the circle of fifths, interlaced with wind; a music-box passage, more childlike; then a blurred version of the first, as the wind takes the musical elements away.
