The Scarlet Monster is an animated short about the fear of death, told through a common experience — the loss of a family member — in a fantasy setting: the sudden appearance of a red monster, a dead rabbit in a toy room, a moth wrapped in a light bulb as a metaphor for real feeling. The film follows “I” seeing the red monster that appeared in childhood when a grandfather was seriously ill, until it disappears at his funeral. Death is like a shadow of the living; we keep a fear or awe of the unknown that can only be seen on the surface.
We made the sound and music, and we are glad to recommend the complete animation. © Animation by Xinyi He. © Music by BubbleFish Studio 2022.
