Reviving cultural legacies through a soundscape installation.

History passes down and does not dissipate, and even though the smoke of war drifts away from this border land, the memories of the people remain. Each track focuses on the historical and cultural heritage of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, in particular on de-industrialisation after the Second World War: naval industry, coffee industry, textile industry and mining industry.
Yilin recorded real samples — ship engine, coffee beans, birds, sewing machine — and combined them with other musical elements, creating an atmosphere of production processes that are still part of the region’s identity.
The placement of the installation was meant to attract visitors from outside the building and to keep a quiet atmosphere inside. Mixing and mastering were done on site so the tracks would fit the room: low frequencies cut to avoid rumble, levels matched, a uniform experience from piece to piece.
