We recorded with the singer Jia Yan yesterday. It was a very interesting process.

After three hours we had a satisfactory recording of ten takes. Even though it was the first time we worked together, communication during composing and planning was fluent; Jia Yan understood the meaning of the music in melody and lyrics.

Working with a new singer taught us how important it is to help them into the mood: choosing a comfortable way to sing, the right tone and style, adjusting headphones and monitoring to their preference. In the room we need to give useful feedback, encourage, and trust. Let them have the confidence to find the best tone.

Sound check is also important. We need patience, and more experience, to keep doing it better.
